RX Smart Gear Evo G2 Review - Fast and Painful?

For us, the most stunning feature of this rope was the price. At $150 dollars it’s 2-3 times as expensive as the ropes we reviewed in our last skipping rope roundup.

BUT if it’s more expensive, it has to be better right? In short, the RX Smart Gear Evo G2 is a good rope. Fast and is a great upgrade if you’re quite proficient with skipping. Will it replace our current favorites? Maybe.

Now them Evo G2 is the first premium rope that we’ve tested. After getting the rope, the first thing we noticed was how heavy the handles were. Out of our top 3 ropes, the G2’s handles were the heaviest. This is both a blessing and a curse. Why? Because a heavier handle will tire you out BUT it will give you better feedback during your double unders.

Our biggest gripe with the RX Smart Gear Evo G2 (and it’s the same gripe for their RX rope) is that the rope length isn’t adjustable and the attachment between handles and rope uses a loop. This may not seem like a deal breaker but the movement of the ring is actually noticeable if you’re use to a rope like the RPM Training Session 4’s.

The G2’s ship with a thin cable and it flies. The spin on the Evo G2 is above average so the entire package makes for a pleasant skipping experience. Aaron’s used it for another 1/2 dozen WOD’s since finishing this video and it’s starting to grow on him.

Took me 5 hours of practice to go from 8 dubs to 107 unbroken with the G2 EVO with the elite 2.6 oz cable. Best newbeginner rope + cable combination by far and I have all the top ropes on the market. Every crossrope, rhythm rope, rage rope, RX original, RX frevo, aero speed. crazy amount of feedback and the smoothest spin. Only reason I only got 107 was because my forearms burned out. Or I could jump forever... Got 80 in 3 hours, then put in 2 hours of work and got 107.

Sick rope. Went from 0 to 80 double unders within 3 hours of practice, with the 2.6 oz cable

What about for crossovers and freestyle? Those other ropes are designed for sprints and double unders only right? But crossovers and tricks? I like the Buddy Lee Rope and the Evo G 2 (coated rope)
