This is the best recording of the planets. Fight me Karajan fans. Some say Mars is better fast, some say Mars is better slow but to me, Bernstein Mars is neither fast or slow, it’s the perfect speed.

The main question for everyone is movement is your personal favorite? For Holst himself it was Saturn apparently. The funny thing about that is my favorite version of that movement is not by a symphony orchestra but by Tomita's synthesized version of it. The organ sound he uses with those upper structure major triads is awesome. For those of you that may want to ask me my favorite movement I would say Venus. Good Lord, what lusciousness! If only Holst could have recreated the aegis of "The Planets" multiple times he would have been up there with Ives, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, etc...
