My mom had the same issue. She found out that she had a skin allergy to the dye used in making the wafer that attaches the bag. Some companies do make color free products. She switched and has not had an issue for 15+ years now.

Ok So for anyone wondering what that is: it is usually called a colostomy bag for different reasons people will have to have a procedure done that basically diverts 1 part of the colon through your stomach and usually a bag covers it to collect the stool (poop). Now for some patients it can be reversed (so put back together) and other times it is best to be kept that way. It is actually a regularly done procedure but is just isn't talked about much.💜
(Be free to add anything that I might've missed💜)
Edit: Thank you guys for so many likes was so happy to help!!!😆💜💜💜

My baby has it and the bag has to be changed often. And the stool because it’s so high up in the intestines is more liquids than a solid. Because it is stuck on his skin by adhesive it can be irritating and if he’s super active the bag can actually come off. Great news is my little guy has surgery Friday and will no longer have the bag and will be able to poop normally but he has had it for 7 months.

Changing barriers too often may be your problem.
It causes skin dryness and severe skin irritation.
Also, applying stoma powder everytime you change will dry skin out.
Use stoma powder only when skin is raw or very irritated.
God bless!

You know it's nice that the guy who started this makes other people feel comfortable and confident enough to share their experience

I specifically need to avoid acidic foods for this reason. Also I change my wafer 2-3 times a week to prevent this or just leaks in general :(. It hurts, but we get through

My wife had an osteomyelitis bag and I seriously felt that she was the hottest woman in the world for showing it and not caring what anyone said!!!

I got my ostomy 20 years ago, am 42 years old now…complete colon & „bottom“ 😉 removed.
It gave me back my life and I can’t imagine going back to the absolutely horrible sick years before surgery.
But yes, girl, I know the mean itchy feeling when the skin gets burned away from 💩 underneath the skin protecting seal. It just happens sometimes, even when you use the - for you - perfect products. 🤷‍♀️
Lots of love to all ostomy owners! 🙃🥰

Hmm sounds like she has a reaction to the wafer or flange...if you look closely you may see a shiny product on her skin behind the bag.
Or when it's time for a changing of the appliance it tends to leak the acid which is in the stool. Which eats away at the body tissues. Causibg the bleeding.
She might try a product that is sometimes called second skin. It forms a barrier between the wafer's glue and the skin. Helps a little when the acid leaks between the skin and wafer too.
But sometimes it is just dry skin if it's not around the stoma area . Then when you itch the heck out of the skin you bleed like a cut or a rug burn. Not fun.
If allergy to bag material some change to another company's product or type of bag . And yet other's wear a cloth bag cover that they sew. Then others place a tissue or gauze between the bag and skin.
You experiment till you find the right fit for you and your body.
Still working with mine after 20+ yrs. Lots of fun.
Good luck and hope she finds a solution that best helps her.

I had one of these temporarily, never made a good seal because my stomach caved in on my scar. It burned the skin like hell and even though I hate having a j-pouch I dont wanna go back to and ostomy bag. Im sorry if thats permanent for you.

Yeah, I have this problem sometimes. I have to change my appliance often, due to the high activity nature of my job. I run a high ropes and zip line course... the harness is pretty hard on the ostomy but it is worth it.
