I was taking out the rear axles from the Previa anyway in checking to see if they were damaged. I did check them and found no problems. I found no problems at all from the rear diff. But i did find the problem after all to my trouble and will bring you that video at a later date.

Good Evening Bill,   I decided to replace the axle shaft seal on the other side today and noticed the old seal was hammered in about 1/4" from being flush with the cavity it goes in.  When I did the other side last weekend I only hammered the seal in just a tiny bit past being flush not like the 1/4"   Now I am worried that I did not hammer that side in far enough.   Did you remember how you did yours.  There is not much wiggle room for being on the right spot on that retainer.

Do you know how different it would be with disc brakes back there? Thanks

I am kind of in panic mode right now and not sure what to do.  I was talking to a Toyota parts guy today and he was telling me that if you got a very small groove on the retainer ring that sits on top of the wheel bearing where the new seal slips over then even a new seal will likely leak.  He said that they make a part called a speedy sleeve that is made out of metal that if you put it on before you put the seal in it seals the area and allows the seal to work without leaking.  Just thought if your new seals start to leak again you might look into it.      Anyways I got the axle pulled out and wanted to know if you replaced the metal gasket that has the 4 bolt holes in it or is that good to go.   I remember you saying that you did not replace you wheel bearings, do you remember if your bearings had a little play in them because mine do have a little play but seem ok  I have 221, 000 miles so compared to your Previa with the factory  bearings how many miles do you have on yours.   Please keep me updated because there is so few people that know about these Previa's, even the mechanic's in my state have not worked on them in years.

Bill,   Did you put any gasket sealer between the inner and outer metal gaskets on your axle shaft before you installed it or do they go on dry.  These are the ones you reused one on the outer bearing and the other one goes on the tube right where  the seal goes.  Trying to get it done today.

I was going to attempt to do my axle seal today but need to have it up and running tomorrow,    Do you have to disconnect the drive shaft to do this job and can you pull that axle out of the tube without removing the rear brakes.
