Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. It is as tall as a 60-story building & was the highest dam in the world when it was completed in 1935.

Hoover Dam was built to control seasonal flooding of the Colorado River and to provide a dependable supply of water for Los Angeles and Southern California.
