It is a social-libertarian movement (you could call them social-anarchist) as well, mixed with the national liberation movement. They came to existence to fight horrible oppression of Kurds under Turkish government (that oppression is arguably less intensive than in 80s, 90s, but it is still pretty intense. PKK is very similar to the Indian Hindu extremist group RSS. Both use nationalism and religion to spread fascade. Only difference is PKK can be controlled by turkey but RSS will be a humongous problem for Muslims in the south asian countries of Pakistan, India and bangladesh .
