God bless you buddy, I love these tests.

I am using a slightly more premium version of the TDA7850 than the one in the video (from the same manufacturer as the TDA7377 board John tested recently), but I feel that the TDA7850 chip itself has relatively high distortion

I have used various Class D products such as TPA3255, TPA3251, and TPA3116D2, as well as Class AB products like TDA7851 and LM3886

However, the TDA7850 chip, in particular, seems to produce vocals that are slightly less clarity and extremely smooth, almost as if a tube preamp were connected. This might be due to high levels of 2nd harmonic distortion

It is designed as an automotive amplifier chip, it has excellent resistance to EMI and noise that can occur in vehicles and on the road. Additionally, it typically supports REM IN functionality and operates within the single DC 12–15V range of a car, which is a great advantage

If you want a more powerful and clearer sound:

For Class AB, LM3886 would be a good choice (but requires a dual-rail power supply and EMI protection)
For better efficiency, TI’s TPA3251 or TPA3255 (preferably with PFFB circuit) would be ideal, though a DC/DC converter and EMI shielding are necessary.

Thank you for always making great videos :)

A Real TDA7850 is quite a powerhouse when you feed it 15-16V and 2 Ohm loads. HEATSINK with small fan and it'll last forever. almost 40WPC. 14.4V 4 Ohm you can JUST see 20W. closer to 18W if you want to meet the distortion spec. 20W will give you a couple percent THD but not quite clipping

That thing should sound similar to a mid-fi tube amp

Hi John! Long time viewer here, id love to see some of these amplifier boards implemented into a 1590 stompbox type enclosure. Have you used any of the 1590 Hammond enclosures for a preamplifier or power amplifier?

Any chance you plan on testing the TDA7294?

Over 1 percent distortion all the way is weird. Around .1 percent at low power should be possible, I guess. I see 2 soic ic's. Maybe input stages? Are these overdriving the poweramp or something?

Would you get less distortion if you aim for the same amount of watts but at 18v?

Almost as good as a valve amplifier with a little more power!

You don't actually have to use 12 volts you can actually use them with a 19 volt laptop charger just fine to

Test the toshiba TCB503HQ chip or their equivalents. Almost every name brand car stereo like jvc pioneer sony kenwood alpine are using these for the last decade.
These are actually a bit of a downgrade compared to the ic's they used before 2010s. The one in my headunit had whole i2c control & the chip would spit back everything necessary like when it clips or input voltage current & distortion. The new ones are just dumb with one enable pin one mute pin one clip dect pin and rest are just vcc ground channel inputs and outputs 😂

This amp has 2 rohm BA3121 denoiser for getting rid of ground loop noise, would that cause such distortions?

What is the difference between tda 7293 and tda 7294

Maybe the input stage is overdriven and clipped.
