Green Severum Cichlid Care Info

Aquarium Green Severum cichlid care starts with aquarium size. Severum cichlids can grow to be fairly large so it’s important to give them a large enough aquarium. A tank size of 55 gallons minimum should be adequate enough.

These fish are from South America and also need heated water. The Amazon river is somewhere between 75 to 79°F. That’s right around what we need your aquarium water to be. When buying an aquarium heater you should plan on eating 5 watts of energy for every 1 gallon of aquarium water.

Products:

The Green Severum grows to around 5-9 inches in length. Because of their size your aquarium is going to need adequate amounts of filtration. I would advise getting yourself a high-quality hang on the back filter. Or if you’re looking to get a little more serious you could get a canister filter.

When figuring out what fish to keep with the green severum Cichlid you should keep them was similar mannered fish. Other fish from South America like the green severum are a perfect decision. Just make sure the fish you keep with them aren’t too small because they will feed on smaller fish.

Just got some a couple weeks ago. They are still small little guys and about a week ago got some little Orange ones. Question: since I have them in a community of African and some yellow labs and blood parrots do I need to add cichlid salt to the water? Fish store told me I didn’t need to add any salts. Thanks for the info. Love watching the channel with some helpful information!

I currently have a green Severum and a red spotted Severum in a 60 gallon South American/ Central American Cichlid community tank. I’m planning on making a 1000+ gallon fish tank and basing it on the Amazon/ Orinoco river, with Severums, angelfish and such. Any suggestions on stocking? It is going to be roughly 22 feel long so there should be a lot of options, just not sure which would be best.

Hello, my green Severus just lay eggs and all the eggs turned white, does that mean the eggs are unfertilized? Do we have to separate the parents from the eggs, will they eat the eggs?

How in the WORLD do you think a green severum is not agressive?!?! You seriously don't know these fish. They are horribly aggressive, they killed one of my fish and are going after the others.
