I dated him for over a month in NYC in 1987. Met him at a pool party but never connected the James Spader thing, as I knew him as Jimmy and to me a bit of a party boy. He had a friend, who was his sidekick who after Jimmy told me he was going out to California, I asked why. He said to do a movie, I almost spit out my drink. I had not seen Pretty in Pink (More likely to see foreign films at that time) and did not know he was an actor. He was younger than me, so although, super cute and amusing, as he had quite the wit, I didn’t take it too seriously. I knew his mom was a teacher and also an artist as well had visited her loft on the Bowery. He showed up 1.5 hours late for a dinner of about a dozen of my friends, so was not a good outcome. It wasn’t til the ‘90’s in Seattle when I saw a slew of his films and realized that James was Jimmy! When I knew him, he looked like what he looked like in Ice Palace. Great hair, intense eyes and yes very attractive. Glad he had such a great career!

I remember Mannequin, it was a fun movie. His character in Sex, Lies and Videotape was oddly seductive. The original Stargate movie was the perfect example of how he could make a nerd look sexy as well as smart. I still think they should have kept him in the series. I miss the blond hair, but I know that we all adapt to the current situation in life. I hope he is around for many more years and I hope to see his sons grow in the business too! ❤James Spader❤
