Thank you for the very clear steps outline. My wife and I have just started to attend ballroom dancing lessons and the very first dance that we are learning is the "Merrilyn". Seeing yourself and Zoe do these steps so gracefully gives us a picture of what we can aspire to. Also of passing coincidence is that I grew up in Blackpool and both worked (in school holidays) and visited many times the Tower and its marvelous ballroom. Also of coincidence is that we live only three hours from Canberra and our youngest is actually in Canberra studying at ADFA. Perhaps our paths may cross on one of our future visits to Canberra. Thoroughly enjoyed the video....

The Merrilyn was devised in 1943 in Melbourne, Australia, by James and Mary Fahey and named after their daughter. It was classed as a 'new old time dance' at that time to distinguish from the original old time and the Australian New Vogue that had only recently emerged. The dance is performed to Schottische and Slow Foxtrot styled music.
