Voting by mail is probably more secure than in person this year.
I mailed my application for both the primary and general election (actually, someone in my secretary of state office checked that box for me and filled in many of the other fields). I had to write in my driver's license number and last four digits of my SS number, then sign and date the application.
When I vote in person I'm only required to sign in.
AND I was provided a URL to track the status of my ballot(s).
