LYRICS:

A fallen time that's bygone
A crude elite that's from a distant zone
You turn a blind eye on what's "brave"
You don't know if it's the truth you told

Anger looks on the quiet dreaming
Seals the sense incandescent ones

Hold back desire for danger
A bet you lose, you'll have no way to turn
I see a man who lives and breathes corruption
Into a circle that you call your own

Don't run away, from the pain
A claim that you deal with
A power game, from within
Impossible for you to see this

Laid down the laws of deceit
The ones who cherish are the ones who'll go
Into the ashes of a tortured world
Only in mind's eye can you see a light

Harmony breaks, dark awakes
In old eyes, the trouble, feel it
Here to stay, mark the way
Improvise the judgment hearing

Don’t run away, from the pain
A claim that you deal with
A power game, from within
Impossible for you to see this

Anger looks on the quiet dreaming
Seals the sense incandescent ones
All remains of the glowing embers
Is a bleak cold irrelevance

One of the most underrated guitar players ever. The man has written countless memorable riffs and melodies

One of the things I love most about this band is that they always took risks, they always took the path they wanted to take and they've always done it very well.

How beautiful it is to be able to have both versions. How nice to have a vision of the band 30 years later.

Thank you Paradise Lost.

Here a fan from 30 years ago

Great song. Both "Icon" and "Draconian Times" are 2 of the best metal albums of the 90s. A wonderful mix of Metallica, Iron Maiden and Sisters of Mercy but at the same time such an intense musical imprint that seems so fresh 30 years later.

It's very interesting to see that Nick can still manage this vocal range!

"All remains of the glowing embers
Is a bleak cold irrelevance"
How powerful and truthful words, for people who have lived passionately to see their flame trembling to depression or relinquishment...

Icon was my first Paradise Lost album back in the day. This new version sounds as awesome and powerful as the original one. Can’t wait to listen to my favorite songs, Joys of the Emptiness, Colossal Rains, True Belief and Christendom.

Icon is unparalleled. the album with a soul, the kind that lifts yoou away from this realm, what every true music should do...bless
crossing fingers to hear true belief soon

So many great memories when listening to this. My first concert ever was Paradise Lost + Crowbar on the Icon tour '94. Of course they started with Embers Fire (after the Dead can Dance intro) and then it was just one big happy headbang-, crowdsurf and mosh-fest.
Perhaps still my favorite PL record 'til this day.

Myself ro my son, few minutes ago:

It's too late to write to you, but I heard a song just now, which reminded me of my teenage depression.
Embers Fire, by Paradise Lost, from the 1993 album Icon.
In 1993, I was 16 years old.
I didn't fit in with anyone, and I was bullied at school.
But I discovered heavy metal.
Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, and my favorite band, Paradise Lost.
This month, they are re-releasing Icon 30 years, they have re-recorded it in its entirety.
In 2006, I had the chance to participate in a PL press conference, and my only question was about what the lyrics meant to the writer. And he told me: nothing, it's just escapism.
I think he tricked me.
I'm still amazed, to this day, how deep Icon's lyrics are.
They saved me, in a world without internet.
In 2000, I got my PL tattoo.
After I was ready, I thought: what if they disappoint me one day?
Until today, 2023, this has never happened.
I'm there in this song, to this day.

Just came home after seeing the amazing Strigoi at Camden Underworld, and YouTube suggested this amazing surprise … Thank you for the music guys … After all these years you still treat music as a form of art and not a product… and us fans see that and appreciate that … Long live PL.
