At a closed-door Health Canada meeting that took place in March, many natural health product manufacturers in attendance at the session stated they would need to pull 40-90% of their products from the Canadian market. Multiple manufacturers stated they would be forced to cease operations in Canada entirely, if Health Canada follows through with their Cost Recovery initiative.

The stakes are high.

Reminder: How is the natural health industry under threat?

➡️ Health Canada is attempting to replace our current natural health product regulations with a new initiative called the Self-care Framework. The stated goal of this framework is to harmonize the regulation of chemical drugs and natural health products. However, this change is expected to devastate the natural health industry, leading to the loss of manufacturers, retailers, and products, stifled innovation, rising costs, and reduced access to natural health practitioners.
➡️ To implement this framework, Health Canada has introduced several smaller initiatives, all contributing to this larger goal. Examples include Sections 500-504 of Bill C-47, Cost Recovery, and Division 31 of Bill C-69.
