Schütze was born in Döcklitz and died in Gohlis near Leipzig, Saxony. He was a teacher and theologian, and became director of the Waldenburg seminary. He had a reputation as a short-tempered and harsh teacher. Of interest to some German readers should be his interaction with the famous author Karl May, who was his student in Waldenburg. Schütze was a driver behind May's dismissal from the school after his candle theft in 1859, but appeared to have been supportive of his new enrollment in Plauen in 1860. Schütze is not known as organist, but wrote a few didactic books on composition and organ playing. This short Fughetta in D major is scored "Moderato" and forte. Played on our Johannus Live III organ with the Sauer-Leipzig sample.
