I heard that the Nightmare on Elmstreet was based on a true story about the death of a lot of young Asian men who died during nightmares. Doctors were unable to find a cause why it happened to them but it was said that it had something to do with their cultural background.

Sudden Asian Death Syndrome, or SADS is a still unexplained phenomenon that happened in the 60’s to young south eastern asian men who immigrated to the US. They would be healthy and fine one moment, and a few hours later would start screaming in their sleep before passing away from heart failure. Despite the world’s best doctors at the time trying to figure out why, no reason was ever found to be behind these sudden deaths. However, by the 70’s, reports of these deaths ceased entirely for no known reason.
