I've always hated this term, because it discourages people from taking their time and exploring. There's nothing wrong with trying on new clothes, or new identities until you find the one that fits. And if that means sex with a gender you don't end up being attracted to, then that shouldn't make you lesser.

Also, the fact that "gold star lesbian" developed as a term without any corollary for gay men belies how much our culture is obsessed with policing women's sexuality.

As someone who would qualify as a gold star lesbian, this term always makes me feel like shit because I am bisexual and when I hear that I feel invalidated because the term basically says that sexual history of any kind is assessed and that there is a hierarchy.

I forced myself due to heteronormativity and not the best support from my mother and some others to sleep with a man. And boi after that I realized there was no way in hell I wasn’t a lesbian. The experience was awful and without going into to graphic detail I just laid there on my stomach eating a sandwich and hoping it would be over soon.
