*Steve Jobs initially hated the idea of the iPhone*

Not too arrogant. Teach the CEO of a glass company how to make glass. Just like he decided to treat cancer with macrobiotic diet.

That "don't be afraid" had the same vibes as "oh, you're hungry? Well, just stop being hungry then"

Finally, after hearing all the stories of how Jobs shut other people down, I finally hear about someone shutting Jobs down. Too bad it didn’t happen more often to Jobs, as he might be alive today if he had listened to his doctors instead of trying to “cure himself.” I admire a lot of things about Jobs, but his lack of humility isn’t one of them.

Tim Apple would have said ...glass my ass, ship it....and we'd all be bitching over our scratched up iPhone.

FYI: Corning is one of biggest producers of optic fiber cores used in telecom and IT which other cable producers use and sell as their brand. It requires high tech factory. In this "news" Corning is shown like some small company. I find it funny.

Wendell Weeks was the CEO of Corning Inc., an American multinational technology company that specializes in specialty glass, ceramics, and related materials and technologies including advanced optics. It wasn’t a small company. But Jobs still gave Weeks a very short timetable. Corning repurposed a Kentucky facility designed to produce LCD displays to produce Gorilla Glass for the first iPhones in under six months. Corning is a large manufacturer but it was still fast work.

And the screens STILL break even from a 2 foot drop.

They couldn’t have done it without … sweatshops.

This sudden change of plastic to glass by Jobs led to lots of Chinese slaves (I mean, uh, workers) being given a bagel and forced to work way past their bedtime. How heartwarming.

Apple today would have just shipped it anyways and when the screen would scratch/shatter it would tell it's dumb user base how it is actually their fault that it is happening.

Wow .. " don't be afraid" why wouldn't we think of that.

Apple found the original factory that produced Gorilla Glass but had shut down due to lack of market. Apple /Corning purchased the facility and began producing their own glass. Eventually producing not only iPhone glass but also the high strength glass products used for stairways and railings in modern architecture, like those seen in various Apple stores.

Somehow saying "Yes you can do it" got an entire factory to do it. I doubt that's how it actually worked out.

This just makes me think of Bill Burr's joke about Steve Jobs 😂

Jobs pushed people beyond their comfort zone in to areas of excellence. He wasn’t always nice going about it but he was appreciative if he still got along with you during the development and manufacturing processes.

I think Elon Musk is very similar with obvious personality differences. They both were (and Elon still is) extremely focused on mission and the goals which they and their design/development teams attempting to be achieved. Very high pressure tech environment which some don’t want to do again.
