Most of the time during sale season some of the bar codes just dont wrung up right. This isn't any cashiers fault, some of the time they are not aware of what items are on promo, BUT they should't be rude and act all knowing, anything they are not sure of they should refer to the manager, that's what they're there for.

As someone who used to work at cvs about a year ago, that cashier actually wasn't lying when she said you could only get $2.60 back on the baby lips since thats all you technically spent "out of pocket" aka the cash card. Extra care bucks aren't redeemable for cash so theres literally nothing you can do in the computer to do a return on something that was paid for with extra care bucks, the computer won't allow it and will only do a return on money paid out of pocket or from a credit/debit card. Personally I would have put the $2.60 from the original card + the other $2 and change back on a separate cash card given my manager approved it!! Obviously lying about only the top row being excluded isn't true and was just a way to give you a BS answer, because if one flavor of the chapstick is on sale they all are in the same brand which obviously you know. I had to put up the CVS sale stickers on each product label (literally hundreds of them) and they're really tedious on purpose because theres one for every given product in the brand!! If she put up the labels herself which is likely she probably just didn't want to admit she screwed them up.

I don't understand why you're so sure she was lying. Maybe she wasn't n she was explaining it to the best of her knowledge. I understand your frustration but retail isn't an easy job. Cashiers can't possibly be experts on everything in the store. There's no possible way. I wouldn't appreciate a customer calling me a liar when I was giving them an answer to the best of my knowledge especially when the same thing happened to her. I wasn't there and I understand your frustration but maybe think of it from their point of view. Just saying

They actually can return it for you.. My CVS has done it for me
They put your ecb that you paid with & your coupon onto a CVS store card & give you back in cash what you actually paid.. They then ring it up correctly & you pay again using whatever payment you choose
