The possible connection of dissociation and appeasement. Dissociation may act as a psychological buffer, stemming from the #shutdown state. This buffer prevents the individual from collapsing into a complete shutdown, which they would eventually die from. Instead, the individual can now exist in a dissociative state and still get their needs met in order to survive.
