Mounting Garmin Dash Cam 46 and power tap to active mirror on JL

I was made aware that not every Jeep has the big box on the windshield behind the review mirror. This is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with Advance Safety Group Package. I believe the box is part of the Adaptive Cruise control.

The video illustrate how I installed the Garmin Dash Cam and use the power from the auto-dimming mirror to supply power to the Dash Cam. The advantage is the camera will only be activated when the ignition button is switch to "Run" or "ACC". This method saves me from having to route the Garmin USB power cable through the windshield frame and down to the cigarette lighter socket.

The Dash Cam comes with a 12v to USB adapter and together with an after market cigarette socket, it can fit in the Advance Safety Module at the center top of the windshield behind the mirror. However, I decided to strip the 12v power adapter from its case to make it smaller. I also wrapped it with a copper foil tape to reduce any EMI that may eminate from the switching supply of the DC to DC adapter.

So far, the camera has work very well. After installation, I was able to catch a small, minor collision pile up during a Jeep meet in the snow.

What’s the size of the screw (or nut) that you attached the negative wire to?

Will the 12 volt adapter fit in the mirror/cruise control housing? I’ve never soldered electronic components before and I don’t want to mess up my Jeep.
Looks great, thanks for the information!

Thank God the only option I didn't get on my 21 rubicon was adaptive cruise control! That box is an obstruction of view and completely unnecessary!
