Isabela (from Encanto) and Chelsea (from this movie) are similar:
- Both were seen as girls endowed with grace and beauty.
- Both were loved by all who know them.
- Both were hiding something that no one else knew (Isabela hiding that she wasn't happy being a perfect girl. And Chelsea was hiding that she was an evil mermaid, the sworn enemy of the Krakens)

The teenage kraken is literally the opposite of the little mermaid

In the original story of "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Anderson, the prince ends up marrying a princess who had found him on the beach after the mermaid got him to shore, mistakenly believing that she saved him. I don't know if the princess was deliberately taking advantage of the mistake, or if Dreamworks was deliberately making reference to it here, but it's still an interesting point.

The story started simple and fine. Ruby and Chelsea had an interesting friendship. But then the ending happend and ruiend the movie for me....
