902-927 is a amateur radio band in the US, and is pretty active in some areas, a really fun band to work!

I used to operate the 900 MHz USA amateur band 902-928 MHz (33cm). I used modified 30-watt Motorola Maxtrac mobile radios at home and in the car but without a decent repeater system they had very little range. Even with a repeater system the range was vastly less to that of hi-VHF. Long ago 900 MHz was a clear band but nowadays there are a number of services utilizing it and depending where you live it can be rather crowded. In the USA the FM call frequency (927.500 MHz) often had home cordless phone users occupying this freq, as it was a shared service. I don't think home cordless phones use 900 MHz anymore in the USA but many other services now occupy it.

Wow! No idea that there was gear manufactured for 903Mhz.
Great to see the major manufacturers of car audio making some radios back in the day!
Pioneer ones looked rather cool.

Before the Cell Phone and Satellite texters, personal communications was important anywhere a phone box was not close by. Much more important than social chat.

20-years ago, I had a pair of the National CR-PC10D mobiles. They were silver & blue in color, and worked well for short range communications, and some distance work, when using 900 MHz Yagi Antennas. Sadly one of the mobiles stopped functioning. With no documentation available, I sold them at a Ham Fest several years ago. Since I bought them second-hand, I suspect someone imported them into the United States, from Japan. Beings that they fell within the U.S. 33cm band, it worked nicely for licensing concerns.

Thanks for posting this video, as I've haven't been able to find anything on the National CR-PC10D mobile, or this band, after countless searches via Google. I feel a little more sane! ;)

Back in the 80s a few of the 934Mhz breakers got hold of Japanese 903Mhz radios and converted them. It wasnt that hard, their radios were way ahead of ours and some could be programmed.

I knew they had a service around 900Mhz, but now I know where exactly it was. Great video. Never seen any of their radios.

our uhf cb was called gmrs or general mobile radio service 462-467 with simplex and repeater operation and was originaly tested quite a while back and with walki talkies was found to be dissapointing originaly buisness licenseees and personal users were allowed and then gmrs was modified for personal use only, however there are not good dealers are selling rigs for " jobsite radios " mow there is frs on almost the same freqency range . cell phone use has killed a lot of that . nice video.

Follow up regarding the digital ID being transmitted:

Radios must be equipped with a control ROM for Auto-Callsign and Digital ID by 1200bps/4800bps MSK.

I might be wrong but I seem to remember the Japanese sets having mandatory ID code being transmitted possibly digitally when you keyed the PTT button? Clarion are best know over here for in car entertainment systems.
