Fun fact: larvae antlions also hunt adult antlions. That just goes to show how pathetic they are in their adult form.

They're like the creatures from the tremor movies but on a smaller scale

About forty five years ago, on a college field trip, I got to show my classmates from a bird watching class what these were.
We were taking our lunch break near a dry river bed when I looked down and saw dozens of little conical pits in the sand and immediately knew what they were, though I'd never seen them in real life before, only on nature shows.
To confirm what I was seeing, I picked up a stick, picked up an ant with it, held it over a pit and tapped the stick so that the ant fell into the pit.
Immediately, sand started being flung up from the bottom of the pit as the ant lost traction and fell to the bottom where jaws reached up, grabbed it, and dragged it down under the sand. One of the coolest insect related things I've ever seen.
I gathered my classmates and instructor around me and repeated the demonstration and they all thought it was cool too. None of the others had ever seen an ant lion trap before, either. 😊

This is the animal kingdom version of a reckless rage filled youth trying to redeem themselves by living a life of peace in their older years.

So this is where Trapinch, Vibrava, Flygon pokemon is inspired from

This has to be a Pokémon reference first of all
This is trapinch and as you know
Trapinch can make It makes a sloping pit trap in sand where it patiently awaits prey. It makes a conical pit in desert sand and lies in wait at the bottom for prey to come tumbling down. Its nest is a sloped, bowl-like pit in the desert. Once something has fallen in, there is no escape. Just like this larva thingy
And the second evolution is Vibrava is a Lacewing
And flygon is a dragonfly or a bigger lacewing but idk which but probably another lacewing lookin thing
