'NOT ENOUGH ROOM' audacity error - how to fix it

Audacity Error Message -- Audacity will not let you (or me) insert something into a track unless the box EDIT - Preferences - Tracks - Track Behaviors - Editing a clip can move other clips is checked.

(Unless of course you put enough space in there, but who's got time to do that? Not me. I just want to stick it in there. )

Done with 3.1.3 edition of Audacity and 81.7 year old edition of me (Beta, multiple fixes needed). Do not insert in ear unless warmed and cuddled.

I am sure somebody has already said this below, but here goes: of course, Apple has to be different, so to bring up the preferences on a Mac, press the command key and the key with the comma symbol.
