If you are getting static turn up your squelch till just after it cuts off. If your getting interference then use your rf gain in combo with the squelch. @this is y you have knobs..

Your swr is off slightly. That's why when you dead key it's not holding in the red on s meter for ptt. Your very close though so won't take much. . Maybe about 1/8 th of an inch off on your rod

7-8 miles is the modulation cutoff on mine with a 3ft firestik can hear people for about 10-16 miles but they run base stations with amps and large antennas at around 50ft.
