This comparison can neglected in 2 ways
1. Comparing an almost gonna end story to only just starting story
2.Comparing an old game to newer one

This video aged like poop. Wuthering Waves too is guilty of the same sin of forced walls of texts of dialogue plus completely inconsequential dialogue choices.

Can we let the story cook for a lil bit? Game ain't even out yet and nobody has had time to develop.

For a person who plays Genshin Impact / Honkai Star rail and Honkai Impact 3rd, and to say, a person who reads all the dialogues (it's long, yes, but it's enjoyable)

I can say that, I do like the way the lore it is in 3 games, Genshin having the main story delivered via Archon Quests, and some details via World Quest, and yeah, even if it is some "reading time" knowing that they could make a cutscene, I don't really mind. You can still live the action while reading a book? (Please do not tell me that "it's a video games, they can make a cutscene with the budget, so why they don't do it?"). It is a matter of liking, I do prefer reading over having to much action, keeping cutscenes only for emotional and important moment, like in Honkai Impact 3rd, which is the next thing I'm gonna discuss

People don't talk about it that much, but I do believe Honkai Impact 3rd have an amazing story, and believe me, I have spent 2 weeks to finish the overall story of the Elysian Realm (the story inside the gamemode, not the main story chapters), and an additional 10h to complete the Elysian Realm related main story chapters. Was I bored? No. Did I like it? Yes !
Why is that? Imagine going into 2weeks with, let's say 2h playing per day which makes it 28h with only reading dialogues (the story + the memories of the 12 flame chasers) added with 10h of the main chapter story of the Elysian Realm, having that cutscene in the end, made EVERYTHING memorable.
Basically, you only need one point of reference to remember a whole bunch of stuff, and this is what happened here, one cutscene made me go through ALL of what I've read, made me remember all those dialogues and now I can say I will never forget about them.

While Honkai Star rail, have kinda a mix of Genshin but with slightly more cutscenes.

To make it short, for me a story is essential, but what make a story good and memorable isn't the pictures or the cutscenes, it's actually the content of that story, how it was delivered, described etc... And let be honest, I can say that a lot of people usually care only abt the main story of a game (this is if a person is interested in the story), and will usually skip everything that is secondary, and there are many people like that in the gacha community.
I'm excited about Wuthering Waves story, and I do hope that it will be good, the world seems to have a scenaristic potential, so yeah, hope that the overall world will have a great lore, and yeah !

(If anyone reads all of this, feel free to share your opinion, and thanks for reading this wall of text ^^")

i feel like after playing the game it is disingenuous to say wuwa's dialogue/storytelling is much better than genshin's. the poor localisation actually makes the walls of text even worse than genshin's because i have to put on my manhua reader brain to read wuwa dialogue sometimes, it occasionally feels eerily machine translate. genshin might be way too wordy but it never feels machine translated.

like that one jiyan cutscene was really cool but genshin has those moments also (the furina/focalors scene?) whilst not reading like machine translation </3. both games could improve their dialogue, but wuwa definitely also has this problem

While I understand the story can't always contain action instances like Jiyan's battle against the horde, a healthy middle would be copying cinematic games like the last of us and god of war, where characters discuss things as they're moving through a city or level. It just adds some variety to the storytelling so it isn't just cutscenes.

I feel strictly the first full main quest compared is fine(I enjoy both):

Genshin first main plot was simple "how do we stop that dragon". Genshin has a plot at the beginning by showin the villian...There's no puzzle. MC is not the chosen one and has a goal "find my sibling". Why should MC help mondstadt? "You help us, we help find ur sibling". Simple

WW: (after completing)
No real plot at the beginning. No threat. MC is the chosen one with no goal. Lots of history learning. Story base on solving a puzzle? Hoping everything just falls into plan? Durring a war torn place to gain trust? What if MC is dumb? Should've use the rain as threat before act 6. Real plots begin after act 5. These two act wouldnt happen if MC couldnt solve the puzzle in 3 days.

So far going through the vid, you're saying that cutscenes should be implemented where action is most needed, and you need more of them to reduce the amount of text lines, and keeping the total duration of the story maintained

I wholehartedly disagree with the HSR story complaints. I wish there was more of it.

Personally i tend to drop gachas when story or characters no longer appeal to me.
Great video btw.

I agree to some extend. I'm playing genshin for the story ( like most of my games) and i also admit that some dialogues are way too long for what they tell, artificially extending the quest length. And that annoying when it happened. But some quest are well balanced and are really enjoyable.
All to say that all actions and no story won't be enjoyable (at least for me). In a RPG, story is an important part, and i hope that WuWa don't neglect that aspect but i agree that more words don't necessarily make a more interesting story.

Can't really compare the two yet, one story already so far and one other just started

for me, story is very important. it's the reason why i stopped playing League. just game mechanics and endless cycle of killing gets old. but a story keeps things fresh, and the more dramatic, the better.

Yea i agree with everything in this video. Definitely hoping that wuthering waves will be able to show us their story rather than just tell us

The WuWa glazing is out of this world.

Jiyan is a joke of a character, a deserter and who gives away command of the army to some random amnesiac.
Not to mention that WuWa might have the worst voice acting I have ever heard in a gacha game.
