That little detail of the shorts being the wrong colour added to the story. It made it appear that Rocky was so insignificant that they didn’t even bother to present him properly at the high point of his life - something we have all experienced. It’s like winning an award for your program at graduation and they call you by the wrong name.

The simple mistake by the props department added to the film in such a classic way. The audience didn’t even know till some time later.
