A walk tour of parts of Journal Square, including parts of Summit Avenue, Sip Avenue, PATH Plaza, Kennedy Blvd, Bergen Ave and Magnolia Ave (alley by Loews Theather). Journal Square is bigger, so this video shows part of it, but pretty much the main parts.

Journal Square is a district in the city of Jersey City, in the US state of New Jersey, and the square itself are the intersections of Sip Avenue, John F Kennedy Blvd and Bergen Ave. It has a PATH train station, a bus terminal, office buildings, (including county administrative office buildings), two huge residential towers that are part of a 3 skyscrapers complex development that is ongoing, stores, restaurants, schools, and more.

Jersey City, NJ is the second biggest city in the state as of 2020. It has a population of 271,099 and is still growing. Its the county seat of Hudson County, and part of the greater New York metropolitan area, (but is not part of New York)

The Transportation Center doesn't look much different than it did when I used to go through there in 1979 to 1980. Just a bit dingier. The surrounding area seems more gentrified now.

Thank you so much! I'm thousands of miles away but I can smell it and feel it. So homesick right now....

I grew up in the Hudson Gardens Projects next to Dickinson High School and as a kid, Journal Square was my hangout. Thanks for the memories.

Wow your video sure brought back a lot of memories
Thank you for posting
I moved away in 1969 and drove past my old neighborhood but never got a chance to walk around like I used to
I loved when you panned the camera to show the tracks below and all the trains
We use to love hanging around the path station
I saw chatty chatty bang bang at the theater
I know I know I am old but it was nice to see how some things changed while some things are still around
I really enjoyed your video
Have a wonderful day

I live about 10 or 15 minutes from there but I never explored around the area, I've only drove by or walked around the train station, definitely will go there to explore, great tour.

Very nice video but kind of depressing, too. I grew up in J.C., and Journal Square was always the place to shop and more back in the '60's & 70's. It was especially beautiful around the Christmas season. On Saturday's, as a kid, you had your choice of 3 theaters- 4 if you included the Pix further down Bergen Avenue towards Montgomery St. Your parents would drop you off at the Loew's, or Stanley or State and you'd meet your friends there on a Saturday. You'd see a cartoon and a double feature and a bunch of trailers. Afterward you'd go out on the Square and get a couple of hot-dogs with chili, or go over to Blimpies by the Jersey Journal building. Then, if your parents didn't pick you up, or you were old enough to be on your own (usually 10 years old), then you'd pay a nickel and take the Bergen Avenue bus home from in front of the hotel. There was so much to do as a kid at the Square, and you didn't worry about crime or perverts or gangs, because there were so many people around. Nobody worried about gangs of kids because adults weren't afraid to tell them to behave. Even the teenagers were cool, but most of them came out at night. By the time I was a teenager I was on my way to the Marines in '73. The year I left the Transportation Center was being built, so I remember when there was a clear view of the tracks below. We still called PATH the Hudson Tube or "The Tubes" and it still cost a nickel, I believe. Of course, if you had a drink after work or on your way home from shopping, you stopped for a quick one at Red bar., But even if you didn't drink, you could get a soda at one of the restaurants nearby. At Christmas time it was absolutely beautiful with the lights and tree and the decorated stores. Plus the feeling of good-times was shared by all. Sadly, as times changed the Square lost its glitter: stores closed, the theaters closed, people got older and moved on, etc., so for me and many others it is now a nostalgic trip, and we only have our memories. But thanks for the ride- it was enjoyable; and I hope the Square can revive once again !
