My head Canon for the warden is that he used to be kinda like the iron golem, protecting the inhabitants of the ancient city before it was destroyed or abandoned. Now blind and confused, gets taken over by the skulk and attacks anything that makes a sound. So it kinda makes sense that the iron golem has respect for it or something. Or maybe it just doesn't wanna die, idk.
