For all who are confused by how the -22 happened: Here are the calculations he quickly did.
So -x^3+2x-1, since the's working with f(3) he's going to replace all the x's with threes.
Thus: 3 cubed = -27, add that to 2 times 3 (which is six) you get -21, then subtract 1 and you get -22.

UGH, the "quick calculations" that you rushed through is what I actually needed help with. Wish I knew how you managed to get that end result. This is what math teacher fail to understand. What might be simple to you with years of math experience might be confusing to some students. Would be more helpful if you slowed down and showed us step by step.

Homework brings me to the verge of suicide we already waste 7 hours every day of the week and you still think it’s not enough and give us even more work to do on our free time in the time that we live in we’re not allowed to have a life except for school life

Your video lessons are incredible. I'm studying for the Texes Math 7-12 exam and these lessons are helping me brush up on my calculus. Thank you!!!!

Please just don’t rush through things. Everyone here in the comments came here for math help so don’t just rush through it.

If you think he is using the wrong formula because he isn't using delta x, h is the same thing.

oh thank you!!! I have a makeup exam in a few hours and I COULD NOT for the life of me understand how to solve one of these problems.
Thank you!

I was trying so hard to figure this out myself. I finally found your video and I wish I had found it 2 hours ago! I was getting frustrated with a similar problem. Thank you so

Definitely not the wrong formula for rate of change, idk what you guys are on... Thanks for the vid, very helpful!

he got -22 by pluging in 3 for x in the original function [-x^3 +2x -1] --> -(3)^3 + 2(3) -1 = -27 + 6 - 1 = -22. Same thing goes 0. He plugged in 1 into the original function [-x^3 +2x -1] --> -(1)^3 + 2(1) - 1 = -1 +2 - = 0

Yes! Thank you!

So what is the difference/purpose between f(b)-f(a)/b-a and f(x+h)-f(x)/h? They have the same name (which is, "average rate of change").
