Today we’ll be comparing chemical guys synthetic quick detailer to a couple stable mates that use a different base chemistry. Can this high value detailer keep up with some modern competitors, or is it left in the dust?

I know this is a bit of an older video so you may not see this but I am telling you Synthetic quick detailer has one of the single coolest super powers of any detailing product I've seen.

Also I think it's worth pointing out that Chemical Guys don't claim Synthetic quick detailer to offer crazy hydrophobics or protection against water at all really. From what I can see looking into it, the goals they had in mind for this detailer were pretty simple and really geared more towards:

1-light cleaning in a pinch
2-slickness and gloss
3-anti-static protection from dust and pollen.

That last one brings me to what I consider it's best use and

Next time you're workin on a car and you're having troubles vacuuming, spray a spritz or two onto the carpet and then prepare to have your head blown as your vacuum now sucks it all up like butter with zero cling to the carpet.

The obvious problem is there are other QDs even in their own lineup that offer the same benefits to some degree, that also offer other benefits like protection from more than dust. I'm not positive but I believe their newest QD Lucent also has antistatic properties but it also beads water and gives more gloss.

But honestly this stuff at $10 bucks is more than worth having in your arsenal if only for those times you unexpectedly run into a car covered in dog hair. Spray it, start vacuuming or sweeping it all into a pile with your rubber bristled brush first, and then move on. Legitimately saves me 45+ minutes to an hour every time I end up having to use it.

Ironic it's such a bad QD because it's definitely an amazing aid to vacuuming.

I think my next idea is to try and mix it into some other QDs and see if I can't end up with a QD that's useful for more than helping me clean up soccer vans and farm trucks.

I use it as a drying aid when I'm doing mechanical drying. Gives a nice shine on a freshly washed vehicle while minimizing friction, but beyond that I wouldn't expect too much

It doesn’t claim to be hydrophobic more for shine and dust repellent to keep car cleaner longer I’ve used this many times it does keep dust from sticking, seal n shine for turtle wax is hydrophobic and works very well

I use the quick detailer as a last coat for a little more depth and shine not really for hydrophobic effect, I don’t think it’s marketed for hydrophobic either. It really does give a great added layer of shine.
The ceramic coat I use a few times a year does an exceptional job with that and it lasts through multiple car washes.

The CG QD is great for dust repellency and for needing to remove dirt/bird poop in a pinch when you aren’t home. My car is parked outside during the workday and it has come in quite handy. It’s not meant to be hydrophobic or hydrophilic but if you pause the video at the 16 minute mark, it has the LEAST amount of water left on the panel which will reduce the chances of water spotting. The other QDs that have silica will feel very slick but are dust magnets. I live in the northeast and there is plenty of salt and road dust. Use the product that is geared for what you prioritize the most

Can you do a dust sticking test. The bottle doesn't claim hydrophobic, but does claim prevents dust.

I personally dont like beading. I use CG and it doesnt leave water spots. Water sheets off. I use it on top of Hd speed and Lucas Ceramic spray wax after 2hr cure time between. Great protection after 24hr cure. time.

I feel paying a few bucks more, it’s worth getting a detail spray that will offer more benefits then just a light clean (CG) I love their soaps, that’s about it

Have tried the CG synthetic detail spray. Was also glad it was only $10 @ Walmart. Literally didn't survive nighttime dew fall lol.

The quick synthetic Detailer never says it’s hydrophobic?!

Ummmm …. I’m not really sure what you’re expecting from a detail spray. They’re designed to remove light dust/pollen and fingerprints while leaving behind a very light gloss enhancement or maybe light protection. I’m not saying CG’s is bad, not saying it’s good. I’m not saying ANY detail spray is bad or good. I just understand the intended purpose of them in general and broadly.

I’ve been using OnR heavily diluted as a detail spray for many years now and I’ve never run into any problems what so ever. But I don’t count on it for protection or gloss. If I want either of those, I use something that offers those specifically. I’m not an “all in one” detailer because I’ve found those products never really work best for my process.

Facts and figures dictate that ALL detailing products made today (yes, including Chemical Guys) work to some degree. It’s up to the consumer which brand or specific product works best for them. Ignore the “this is best” AND “this is garbage” opinions of literally everyone. Use your own judgement accordingly.

😬😬😬

So is it worth the 10 bucks and keeping in the back seat for when I get to the car show? I'm not sure what the water repellency test proves as it's not advertised to do that

Interested to find out how 3D Bead It Up compares. Heard it’s pretty slick and hydrophobic for the price

Will this kill the hydrophobic properties of a coating

Shinee wax is awesome for the price.

Also graphene needs to go away. Never used it. Never will

"marketing wank" is a beautiful phrase! I'm not sure wank means the same thing in Canada to the UK but the sentiment still seems to hold true 😂

As an old school detailer the chemical guys product is exactly that BUT as always they over do it with the bullshit on the label 🤣

People actually forget what a qd is,
So the cg's is a quick detailer, doing what a qd does, old school maybe, maybe its very lubricated so is actually good at what it's meant to do?
The others are more toppers/lsp
Not really qd's
Shinee wax is a quick wax and
Im sure the gyeon even says only use on clean paint so not really a qd

You can't compare ceramic products to non ceramic. Chemical guys synthetic detailer contains no wax or sealant or any protection of that sort. Its just a shine detailer.
