Top 3 cheesesteaks you need to try are from John’s roast pork, Angelo’s pizzeria, and cafe Carmela

Al Capone even “stayed” at Eastern State Penitentiary. This time of year they turn a lot of it into a legit haunted house attraction, pretty high quality as far those go, and the natural historic environment is worth it. 🍻

My parents were both born in Western PA, where my ancestors had been since the 1750s, and moved to California in 1962 where I was born. Both were born in the early 1930s. My dad graduated from Pitt University, that was sort of a rival of Penn State I believe. My family has actually been there so long that we have a town named after my family "Gramlingtown" right outside Johnstown. My parents lived in Pittsburgh for a while. It's true what they say about Western and Eastern PA are like two different States. My dad spoke about Philadelphia like it was a different planet and rarely went there (if at all). If you guys get to the Pittsburgh area in the future, PLEASE go to Gettysburg and also the 9-11 Museum. You would also really like the Johnstown Flood Museum tour. That whole area is an incredible place and most of my living family is still there. Not what it once was after the collapse of the steel mills and coal mines decades ago; but it is still an amazing, unique part of the country.

#1 is a rule in any large city. Everyone should know that the only way to exist in a big city is to be efficient. People who travel the city every day know what they are doing. You need to also.
I always hear visitors complain about LA drivers being rude or crazy. Sure there's some everywhere but 94% of the time they simply know how to drive, know where they're going, and they are prepared. Most visitors don't have a clue, never should have thought they could figure it out in the road, and aren't prepared. And rather than accepting they're to blame they complain about the locals. If you're visiting anywhere, know how to drive, know where you are going, and pay attention to the driving only.

One the thing I agree with the guy in the video about is that Philly is way more than cheesesteaks. There are so many fantastic sandwiches and pizza. The roast pork and Italian hoagies are some of the best in the world.

Philly is my home. When I was a kid the liberty bell was inside independence hall and you could touch it.

Visit south street in Philly. It’s been 18 years since I’ve been, but it’s a cool street where you can do some bar hopping and go in some cool record stores, too. At the end of south street you can look at the Delaware River which separates Pennsylvania from New Jersey.

Pat's and Geno's Steaks in the Italian Market are iconic. Additionally, you will be walking the route that Rocky Balboa ran in the movie, "Rocky". It's not near anything, though. Center City, pronounced "Senner City", is easier to get around. I agree with Reading Terminal. Chinatown is next door to the Reading Terminal. Olde City has a walking tour you can check out -- Elfreth's Alley, Betsy Ross House, etc. South Street is a must. The Franklin Institute is a fun place. As kids, it was an annual school trip.

I worked in the Wells Fargo Center for NBC Sports, Philadelphia. Their studios are there. Your best bet is public transportation because parking sucks. Also, there is a bar next door called Xfinity! Live, which used to be the location of the iconic arena, the Philadelphia Spectrum.

Hop the High Speed Line into New Jersey to check out the Aquarium in Camden, N.J.

Glad this guy isn't on the Tourist Board. I don't want to visit a city where you can't say "Downtown." Sure maybe, they would know you were a tourist, but otherwise, who cares?

Native Philadelphian here who just started their own tour, travel, and adventure company here in the city. A few counter points to this video (and I love Wolter's World)

--- 1. As others already said in the comments....the point about us being impatient is true in any big city anywhere in the world. Yes, we'll bite your head off (verbally) for slowing us down - but that's because we know, or the savvy amongst us know, that there's a polite and acceptable way to do things if you're not sure. If you're in line in Philly (or New York, Chicago, etc.) for a busy sandwich place (or any grab and go type food establishment) - look up the menu while you're waiting, ask people in line what to get, how to order, etc. That way you're efficient and prepared when it's your turn to order and pay. Similarly if you're driving and you're visiting the area for the first time, make sure you have a good sense of how we drive here, look up directions before you go, if you're lost, stop and ask for directions, etc. For us, it's not about us hating on you - it's about you showing respect and learning before you go. We LOVE to help people, we love to share ideas, suggestions, opinions, etc...just don't act like a deer in the f'ng headlights and use some common sense about things. Like with the food, lots of people may have short windows for lunch breaks or have a busy night or kids waiting at home or in the car and they just want to grab a quick, cheap dinner. You standing there ignorant and all, showing you did no research and expect the world to stop to cater to your ignorance is what pisses us off. Just ask, show some respect, and we'll help you learn or navigate or eat, or do anything, really!

--- 2. Septa isn't bad - it's just that after 7pm the buses and the trains that go from the city to the suburbs slow down (and on weekends) and run less frequently as you go later in the day. So just be prepared to wait - though you can download their app and track trains/buses much more efficiently here and help you have to wait around in bad weather for less time.

--- 3. Yes - the food here is more than Cheesesteaks. We've won restaurant of the year awards, chef of the year awards, top 10 food cities in the world, etc. etc. from numerous publications and foundations. Hoagies (what Americans call subs), pretzels, water ice (think Italian ice, just a little more icy and not as smooth, but still delicious and refreshing on a hot day), but also ethnic food - from Polish and Italian, to German, Himalayan, Mexican, Vietnamese, Peruvian, Ecuadorian, etc.

4. Driving isn't that bad lol. You just have to understand the parking signs and like any big city, you have to know the times of day and the stuff that makes certain areas or roads more prone to congestion.

5. While you're here - don't call it a Philly Cheesesteak. It's just a cheesesteak. Like you wouldn't say "English Fish and Chips" in England lol.

6. The Philly--Pittsburgh rivalry is almost dead. Both cities are wonderful and both have great fans, great people, great food, great history, etc. Only the idiots that never travel hate on other cities.

7. Yeah - we're not NYC and we're not D.C. We're a working class city with normal, everyday people.

A friend of mine used to live a couple of blocks from Eastern State Penitentiary. It's a shame your trip is post-Halloween as they do it up a bit for the holiday. It's supposedly haunted. A TV show over here called "Ghost Hunters" supposedly caught some things on camera. Having done some time in jail, I've never had the need to visit this one. Been there, done that, got to keep my state ID number.

Lived in philly suburbs my whole life. I suggest the mutter museum and a flyers game over the 76ers if they are in town. Also, its outside of philly but not too far away, consider checking out longwood gardens. Also also, I think pittsburgh is one of the coolest and most beautiful places i have ever been to. I like everything about it except the penguins (i like the steelers and pirates though).

Daz I moved to Pittsburgh. It's a great city, great sports town. Ironically, I'm a Cowboys fan, there's a story behind that. But I've been to all three stadiums and their awesome. Good pizza too.
