The stage is set for electoral battle in Punjab. As the countdown for polling begins round the clock campaigning is taking place in Punjab. In this multi cornered contest Aam aadmi party is pitted against traditional rivals the congress and the shromani akali dal while former chief minister captain amrinder singh is in alliance with the BJP. Challenging Navjot Singh Sadhu in his bastion Amritsar east constituency is Vikram Majithia. Congress’s star campaigner and its candidate from Amritsar east constituency Sidhu is highlighting his role in the opening of the Kartarpur corridor with Pakistan. Sidhu says majithia is no challenge for him but talks about him in most of his public meetings.
But hitting out at Sidhu Vikram majithia says Navjot Singh Sidhu is not a heavy weight candidate. Majithia says elections are not a laughter channel. After congress announced Charanjeet Singh Channi as its the chief ministerial candidate, Sidhu’s wife Navjyot Kaur says she is disappointed on a personal level with that announcement. She however says Channi has said that he will follow the Sidhu model of development in Punjab. But while majithia is taking on Sidhu, his wife Genieve kaur is making her political debut by contesting elections from Majithia constituency. For traditional parties in Punjab AAm aadmi party is posing a significant challenge.
Can AAP spring a surprise? The party is finding resonance with farmers in the rural belt. As election campaigning goes on in full swing top BJP and the congress pitching in to support their candidates. Amit Shah is reaching out to the Sikh voters.
Priyanka Gandhi’s is doing road shows to boost the party cadres even as Sidhu’s supporters haven’t reconciled with congress selection of Chief Minister candidate. But in the end it is the people of the state who will decide which party comes to power when they will cast their vote.
