I believe the song is a criticism of the American Government's policy of making it difficult for children born of Vietnamese mothers and American fathers during the Vietnamese war. The kids had no place to go. In a homogenous culture, they were obviously not 100% Vietnamese, but the US government did not want to give them Visas.
So when the lyrics say "There ain't no need for ya" and "Go straight to hell boy" he is echoing what both countries told the children. The Clash were way ahead of their time in recognizing this reality.
Any anger or criticism of this song might be better aimed at countries that have inhumane immigration policies, or only allow people who can contribute to the economy.
Musically, this song is amazing. The combination of rock instruments, percussion, and flute (keyboard)?
Beautiful song that has been sampled by a lot of modern artists.

The lyrics/meaning of this song is incredibly deep, I don't think many people listen close enough to understand

I don't care what u think, I grew up listening 2 the clash, along with other classic rock.   All this awesome music made a foster home hell alot more bearable, thanks 2 the state of California welfare system. B happy, it could B a lot worse?

The messages in this song are really powerful, akin with many songs by the clash. People should realise that MIA sampled this song for a reason - the similarities in the messages between this song and paper planes. Paper planes isn't a rip off of this song, it's honouring it. It's just a pity that the music industry isn't set up to promote the views of artists - meanings behind songs are so often lost.

I put this song on my play list of songs that could fit in with a Darren Shan story because Darren's life went to hell after he became a vampire.

it's about various social issues: collapse of british industry under Thatcher, children of american gi's and vietnamese women being rejected in their homeland and abandoned, falling into addiction, violence in inner cities, and immigrants struggle for existence.

This song is like fine wine, it keeps getting better with age. The new "punk rock groups" just don't get it at all.
