Hey Paul, there is a work around to keeping the primary secondary always visible in horizontal. We can extend uisplitviewcontroller and open override the viewdidload. In the overridden function, we can set preferred display mode to one beside secondary. This works as SwiftUI uses uisplitviewcontroller under the hood

Are those drawbacks solved now in 2023?

That is what make the mail app so unintuitive on iPad. You always have to show primary to change mailbox, and when you select a message it disappear.
