Hailing from Kailua, Hawaii, Gerald Shaddock had a hard time adjusting to Seattle. The rice wasn't sticky enough, people didn't understand pidgin, and he was one of the only ones wearing shorts. But at SPU, he found Ohana O Hawaii, a group of students interested in the Hawaiian culture. "I could be myself and speak pidgin. I could identify with the people there," he says. Now in his junior year, Gerald is a leader in his residence hall, an educational ministry major, and a member of Men's Choir. "Once I found the right people, I've felt at home," he says.

etc Magazine's "My World" series takes a look into the lives of SPU students: from art majors to biology majors, runners to dancers, music lovers to book worms... Our students are unique, individual, and engaging.
