Get the max out of the Locrian Scale / Mode with this Guitar Tutorial! The Locrian Half-Diminished Scale is the seventh Scale / Mode in the Ionian System. This scale takes on a special role. It's the only one that includes a diminished fifth interval, what results in a Diminished Triad or Half-Diminished tetrad as Basic Root Chord. Considering the Root Chord being the foundation of the sound building of a mode, it is pretty dissonant and unstable. That's why it's not easy to find a song that is written in the Locrian Mode. But even if you have to get used to its sound first, it's really worth to check it out and you'll be surprised that it's actually possible, to create something beautiful with it. Learn how to play chord progressions, that perfectly reproduce the true sound of the Locrian Mode. I call this concept the Frank Gambale Method. Frank Gambale, an incredible Jazz Fusion Guitarist released a VHS guitar tutorial way back in time, where he explained his concept, and this had a great impact on me and my understanding of the church modes. Great great playing, where people struggle with the locrian mode is they're searching for a safe resolution in relation to the major scale. I think with modes it's about learning the mood and emotion of each of them.
Each has their own place and function, I've heard a lot of people say locrian is horrible or unworkable. It has a tension because it doesn't have a natural fifth but there a lot of great ways it can be used like horror music, I've heard dance music using just a few notes of it but it definitely being based in locrian a great example of tension without sounding to geeky.
Sorry for talking too much 😅 I'm just glad to see you not just dismissing this mode like 95% of people do
