It's a small but important point. :)
The exception is when we need to stress THE for some unusual reason. Then even before a consonant sound, it can sound like "thee" (with a long "e").

Yes. English words can be written one way, but said very differently. It helps to know patterns. For example, "ph" sounds like "f" in words like "photo" and "physical." You'll also see this at the end of words, as in "paragraph" and "photograph." Visit my website and take a look at my Study Tips. I have one on spelling. Have a good week! :)
