It's always a relief when a new calf nurses for the first time. Thanks for bringing us along

Calves are looking good. Always good to see first time moms be attentive to the new calves.

Thanks again for all your videos! It’s been cold here too! Tonight low 34 degrees but next week 80s. Crazy weather!

Good calm cattle Russ-I really like seeing that.

Although the grass is short it looks green and healthy. The cows look very calm. I think we may be getting summer.

I use the same approach as you, I take as soon as possible. Like you, I am not a fan of it but it is very helpful. I have a couple cows that make me nervous, this year their calves didn't get tagged.
It's usually the end of April to first week of May before we can start grazing.

The herd and calves are looking good. I finally have some calves, great time of year. I agree with you about tagging calves. Tag em early. First year I am tagging. My Pop’s never tagged and when you have so many black moms and calves it is easy to get em mixed up. Especially when they get older and weaned. When you want to know who the mother or bull was. Continued good calving and be careful with those first time heifers, farmer rod

The grass looks beautiful. We also have a late spring. The grass is just starting to poke out now.

We did chores in winter clothes this morning as it was 25f still - we are normally out on tall grass by may 4, I'm still feeding hay and wishing for grass! Used your hose clamp tool today :)

Russ you mentioned you will take care of the thistle through grazing. Can you elaborate? Great video!

Russ,
Thanks for the video. We also have a lot more Canada thistle this year compared to last year. At least it is said to have a good TDN of about 65% when grazed before mature. Protein value about the same as alfalfa. Unfortunately it is terribly invasive and will quickly take over a field since it spreads through rhizomes.

Everybody looking good Russ. Our grass is also 3 weeks to a month behind from last year

Russ, I think you are only overgrazing if you come back before the grass has recovered from your last grazing period. You are just grazing it heavily.
