Fashion in FFXIV vs. WoW: Glamour vs. Transmog

There sure are some stark differences in the fashion of Final Fantasy XIV and WoW... :)

- Warcraft clips from the official Warcraft YouTube page and Twitter.

P.S. I do truly hope that WoW can turn it around, especially after the announcement of the Microsoft / Xbox acquisition. I spent 16 years there and would like to feel good about playing it again, but in good conscience I can't support Activision Blizzard until they create a better work culture, start treating their employees with respect, and start listening to their players.

You can actually dye your armors in FFXIV, which means the gear combinations you can pull off become way cooler and more varied. In wow, you gotta pray the Default colors and textures can actually mesh well, and thats a major turn off.

I love the look of the glamour in FF XIV too though I'll admit I wish we had more space in the glamour chest, or a way to implement the transmog system in WoW in FF XIV

The actual mechanics of transmog are so much better, being able to collect and save every appearance you come across over the 400 limit of the dresser, WoW gets a point for that. However, with a lot of older sets looking very similar and just recolours of robe X or chain coif Y, not to mention the 100+ cloaks that usually just get made invisible, so the collection does get bloated. The ability to transmog different shoulder pieces in theory should be great, though not being able to dye shoulders makes it look more cobbled together than not, so half point for trying. WoW does have some standout sets and pieces, though novelty items are very rare (pink party hat for example.) the ability to fully re-customise your characters face without paying gets a point as well; having to Fantasia if I wanted to change just eye colour for example would add up.

FFXIVs gear on the whole just looks so much better. Robed characters have so much more depth to their pieces, for example. The limited space of the glamour dresser makes you think on exactly what pieces you really want to keep, so while the technically infinite expansion of the transmog system is superior, the glamour dresser almost feels like a RL wardrobe where you put your favourite outfits, and those saved items hold a little more personal value. FFXIV also gets a point for the sheer variety of glamour items, not locking itself into the high fantasy aesthetic and allowing creative minds to go to town, if they can hunt down the right glamour items. Edit: dyes. Being able to coordinate your gear by recolouring is a tremendous boon.

If you were able to mash the positives of both systems together, it would be fashionista paradise.

Both have their good and bad.. But I will always prefer final fantasy. There is depth and layering involved in their gear. It doesnt look like a flat surface like in wow.

The wow transmog system is a little better than FFXIV. You acquire a piece you have it for forever. In FFXIV, you have to store gear in the glamour dresser or you need to have the piece in inventory to glamour an item

transmog system is mostly better, though dyes arent really a thing in wow so that sucks, but the armor set design in ff14 is mostly much better. every once in a while wow knocks it out of the park, but like, okay, look at the leveling gear

when ff14 does an expansion, they do like 5 new sets of leveling gear for each armor type, plus a new class set, plus raid gear. wow gets 1 armor set for the entire leveling process that maybe gets recolored in higher level versions, usually no class sets unless its a raid set, and dungeon sets are often also just the leveling gear recolored.

final fantasy team puttin in the work, wow team skating by on past reputation.

So glad this video has zero dislikes. Looks like all WoW players agree. 👍

I was expecting an actual comparison of the points, like WoW's Collection system being better than FFXIV's glam dresser and wardrobe yet that game doesn't allow for dying, but a shitpost is always fine too lol

I never realized the only interesting/most used armors on WoW just had a lot of lights and shiny effects attached, but very 2D textures, if you removed the particles, there is nothing remarkable

The system itself: WoW

The armor sets and pieces: FF14

I will admit There really hasn't been really decent armor in sl (shadowlands). Most of sls good stuff is in the store or collector's edition.

I think it's mostly because even with tier sets, they are mostly focused on the environment, than making the classes looking like their classes.

So now we have death knights wearing weird paladin looking armor with a weird skull helmet

That Steel Samurai look, on the summoner @ 1:20 is so SICK.

Beyond its limitations and how complicated it can be to obtain certain pieces of gears for transmog, I just love the "once you've looted it it's unlocked for your whole account" in WoW.

400 slots in the dresser is absolutely terrible and while the system of glamour plates is convenient, I would love to be able to unlock more of them.

Meanwhile over in Monster Hunter World I wore Fatalis armor and just layered it with every single armor option and color !

Okay, showcasing vanilla wow armour set is just not fair lmao. Had a good laugh. Great job on the video!

One good thing WoW does for glam over FFXIV is more glam plates and if you collect a new piece of gear, it automatically saves it in your dresser so you can just toss the item right away.
Edit: oh yeah different weapons like maces/hammers options if you are melee. Although that derp music can also apply to some glams when walking around Limsa haha

Cant believe you didnt mention how WoW robes use the same model since launch, has no physics and acts like its superglued to your legs, and is just a different texture with plastic 3 parts tapped to it.
