it's like playing a novel game where you have to get many bad endings to get the true ending

Is that you, dad?

“This is stupid, why would there be a crazy lady in the aisle?”
Later...
“The judges see that it is skim milk and give her low scores.”

In the first iteration of the story, we see the main character's goal: To buy some milk.
In the second iteration of the story, the main character struggles to achieve their goal because an obstacle has now been established: The crazy lady in the aisle.
In the third iteration of the story, we learn the main character's motivation: To buy some milk for his daughter.
In the fourth iteration of the story, we set up what is at stake for the main character: He needs to buy some milk for his daughter or else she won't win the milk competition.
In the fifth iteration of the story, the actions taken by the main character are met with unforeseen consequences where the daughter freaks out and tells him "This is the wrong milk!".
In the final iteration of the story, we have everything we need. We understand the main character's goals, their motivation, what's at stake, and what obstacles they must overcome. However, when the main character's actions have unforeseen consequences and it seems like they have failed at achieving their goal, we feel the emotional change that occurs when the main character and their daughter both stop feeling upset with each other and learn how to trust and appreciate each other.

When the daughter spilt the milk all over herself, the judges did not cry, for they knew there was no good crying over spilled milk

As an occasional writer, I keep coming back to this video. Coming up with ideas can be hard, and it often feels like this, and there's nothing wrong with that. Elaborate, get creative, get ridiculous even. That's how some of the best ideas are made.

It's subtle, but I really appreciate how the story about a daughter being glad her dad did his best parallels the writer's acceptance of and simple happiness over his silly sorry :)

plot twist: the daughter was lactose intolerant
and the crazy lady fighting him was actually his daughter from the future trying to stop him from getting the skim milk before the domino effect happens and causes the universe to collapse

This is a surprisingly good example of how to create provocative storytelling. It's not the content, it's the context. If this story can make you tear up, then you can get anyone to care about your story, if done correctly.

"... because, everybody loves... Milk."
Truly words to touch the heart. Wonderful story.

I love how the talent show consists of children pouring milk over them selves.

"this is the greatest story ever made, and everyone will love it."
"because everybody loves..."
_and for a moment, there was a pause. a halt. for just a few seconds, he thought about his descisions, pondering every thought and action he made to create his story. every mistake he made, every improvement he added to make it all worthwhile. and then, he thought about how he just created an entire world, a story. "this is it." he thought. "this is my greatest creation.". the man sat there in front of his monitor... and smiled._
"... milk."

This single video has helped me more with writing than an entire creative writing class managed to do in a semester

I would actually love to see someone write a story with this method. Just think of a very basic single sentence situation, and keep asking “well why would this character do that” and just build the story around there until it’s a comprehensive narrative.

It probably wouldn’t be very good, but it would be a cool project to make a short book out of. :)

Bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
