Im on a septic tank and don’t want to dump a lot of excess water into my system so I don’t use a python. I use a submersible pump and 1/2 inch vinyl tubing, I put the pump in the tank and run the hose outside. I refill the tank by putting the pump in a 5 gallon bucket in the bathtub and let water run in the bucket while the pump runs. I use a temp gun to make sure the temp of the water I am putting into the tank is about the same temp as the water in the tank. Works great.

For water changes we tried a python, but the fact that it uses water to create the siphon to begin with didn't sit right with our extreme frugal mind set, it's a lot of water we have to pay for. So instead I take a water pump like you have in your diy filter attach a hose to the "out" side & turn it on in the water. Then I just stir up the water & gravel or sand (I use a heavy grained sand so I cam so this) so all the stuff that has settled at the bottom gets sucked up & out by the pump & I have the hose extended outside. To fill the tank back up we use the garden hose, when we lived on well water we still did buckets instead of the garden hose, but we'reon city water now. For our frugal mindset this is better because we're on solar so we pay more for water than electricity & this method uses less water. As an added bonus my brother's kids have a blast helping because I "let them" stir up the water which is one less thing I have to do then I'm not breaking my back bending over the 150 gal stock tank. Also even when we didn't have solar this method was less money on electricity than the money spent on water to drain the tank. We figured this out by taking the amount of money with the python - with electricity and found it to be a little less

🆘Hey, I NEED HELP. I have a read eared slider(male)and an African side neck(female). Both have lived together for 3 years. Recently though the male slider started trying to mate with the female(stressing her out) and when attempts failed he would get frustrated and nip at her feet which is a big issue. I had them separated for a half a month to upgrade into a 100g tub(turtle pond), because I was told it can cause behavioral changes that might help the situation. For a day I had the female get comfortable in the tub before adding the male. Things was going well for about 5hrs, then he started to exhibit the same behaviors. I don't want to give him away bu it's starting to die down to that option. Can u pls or anyone that sees this throw some suggestions at me. I'm starting to loose hope of ever getting them back into the same enclosure again🆘
