Edit: I figured out why it felt so lacking, half the book is reserved for the next in the series. They run parallel in time. It all does come together well just keep with it lol.

Cercei is so wonderfully dumb, it's actually enjoyable. Imo, it takes a good author to write a character so oblivious of their own stupidity, yet still interesting to read about. Cercei is infuriating, but in a good way. Every time I re-read or re-listen ASOIAF I find myself enjoying her fall from grace not because of Schadenfreude, but because it's genuinely intrestingly written.

I think my favorite parts of this book are Cersei’s musings to herself about how great a job she is doing and how Tywin would be proud, meanwhile Tywin is rolling in his grave or if he was still alive would be slapping her for all her “good decisions”.

After being slapped in the face with the epilogue of book 3, I am so fucking pumped. I was speeding through the first three books since the TV show did such a faithful adaptation at first, and I’m so glad to finally be back in Westeros with absolutely no idea of what might happen
