According to the Sask Crop Planning Guide (2024) the breakeven yield for Durum wheat on brown soil is 22.52 bu/acre to cover variable expenses and 34.02 bu/acre to cover all expenses. Assuming #1 grade. The cost of land (rent) is part of the second number. This is before any return to the farmer himself.

In europe there is also a hell of work to do in August. It's the absolute peak for the workload. Parallel to the harvest, grain hauling an storage you have to prepare the next seeding season and even start seading in parallel. We start seeding canola after August 10th. Breaking stubbles, do some post harvest burn. running cultivators 2 times, spreading manure & digested residues, spreading chalk and other soil improvers, mowing all field edges, actually seed canola, to the pre-germination spraying... Ahh yeah also seeding filler-crops in case you plan to seed sugar beats next spring.
All running in parallel to the harvest.
Just hope you dont have a diary farm and also have to mow and make hay or silage.
If you need 2 ppl in spring, you can run 10ppl in august easily...
On Sep.1st we continue with seeding smal grains barley/wheat.

I would like to see Mike try some Case IH combines or some New Hollands with the twin rotors.

We had barley that was like 42 pounds and nobody wants that crap so we just increased our fan and blew the light shit out the back and got it up to 46 which made us a little happier 😅

So, Ricky Bobby had it right, “ if you’re not first, you’re last “ 😂
Hopefully the weather cooperates now, and you get stuff in the bin, and the railroad keeps railroading. 👍
