It’s so amazing that a few hundred families hold the power generationally to enact laws for 1.3 billion Indians.

Problem with INC is lack of vision. People of India have aspirations and they have big dreams. Congress is still living in past. No model of development no anti corruption efforts from Congress.

The theory that Congress would break apart if not for the Gandhis shows how Congress and Gandhis especially have been unsuccessful in creating a democratic structure in 70+ years. It also highlights the feudalistic nature of Congress where personal loyalty to a dynasty is above impersonal loyalty to the Party or the elected Leadership.

This is a grave condition and sets a wrong precedent as the citizens are expected to show impersonal loyalty to the Nation State in a democracy but the state of affairs in a leading political party who fought for independence has not cultivated this.

This shows a decaying culture where leaders are not created and there is no thought of good governance but of consolidating and exercising power

Political parties are not much different than corporations, if you see your company might be going bankrupt you will change your job and use your current job to negotiate a better salary with your future employer. And just like corporation’s if the high executives make bad decisions the company will be punished by the market and in this case Congress is being punished by Indian voters.

Dynasties are very common in British and American politics as well.. Here in UK, here are ongoing existing dynasties in Tory dating back to 14th century!!

There is nothing wrong with capable politicians family to work in the same field. It becomes problematic when the party itself start revolving around the family like the congress or other regional parties but It's horrible for National level atleast

we all talk about nepotism in Bollywood seeing this and I wonder it is even more in politics. Son's, daughters of x leader are all around in politics. SG calling these as dynasty have meanings on so many levels. Kudos ❤️

The people were fed with lectures about secularism, principled politics etc for decades. But as the storm started getting worse and opportunities drying up, these families started jumping the ship.
2).Where have they thrown their ideologies and principles?. What has happened to their morale high-ground?. 3).All along people were fed about the conflict between BJP and Congress+ other regional dynasts as a conflict between religious fanaticism and secularism and about protecting the idea of India blah blah blah. Over-night, what has happened to their conscience, their principles, their secularism, their idea of India, their world view and india's composite culture?.
4).BJP has already rolled itself on the path of Congress. If this trend continues, days are not far off, when BJP would be totally unrecognizable from Congress.
5). The only ever-lasting and unchangeable truth in this world is food, sex, money/gold and the urge to dominate the other person I.e. craving for power over other men/women. So, all ideologies basically serve as tools for enslaving the minds of people. In that sense, religion is also an ideology. But the tag of 'Holiness' to religion does not allow us to see the truth. But it is no different from Communism or other isms in their faith, fanaticism and in their methods organized control over the minds of men. The instances of connivance of the so-called holy men with not-so-holy worldly politicians is not unknown. What are they after, is no guess. Yet, generations after generations of men believe in their and become sacrificial goats at the hands of the magicians of men and destined to die like a moth, which impulsively rushes towards fire.

See what happened in Sri Lanka in deep crisis because the whole Govt was from one family which has been ruling the country for so many years and they have looted. The result we can see. So NO for dynasty politics. Some of anti Modi Journos are mischievously comparing Sri Lankan fall to autocratic rule of BJP exactly the contrary.

Hello Sg, I am sure one day you will produce a CTC on the demise of the CONGRESS PARTY. How about "Once there was a party called Congress" for the title?

Ideally any party should be meritocratic and reward/promote those who produce results - dynast or not. Being dynast cannot be a privilege or blood right like in case of congress and other regional parties.

Sounds a lot like the rajas and maharajas fleeing their allegiance to their local overlords, to swear allegiance to the British.

Gandhiji wanted disbandment of Congress after independence and he did it indirectly by anointing Nehru as the country's first P M.

Good observations. Politics should not be made the staple. The Nation - people and media- should be working on far more important matters brewing in this world. The Print discusses them on its channel. Great for us.

Tailpiece: It is time we treat political news as secondary and fillers.
