Pressure sensor composites

Optical fiber sensors are commercially available but have up until now been based on glass.

SHUTE can inhouse produce optical fiber sensors made from polymer, which creates novel sensing capabilities.

SHUTE sensors are compatible with current sensing setups. They are easy to embed in hard and soft materials, and they can reach larger sensing range and higher sensitivity than existing technology, e.g., 20-30 times more sensitive to strain/stress than glass fiber sensors.

They are ideal for monitoring inside flexible materials like composites or hard rubber as they are flexible - up to 6% elongation.
