During the 3rd year, you can see that most of the growth is at the top of the tree. Our goal this year is to prune the major branches by removing upward and downward growing wood, dead branches, crossing branches, suckers at the base of the plant, and by making bench cuts to continue to encourage outward growth.

I've been pruning roses for decades, and have shaped orange trees, but this will be my first year with a young apricot and two plums. I see the basic philosophies are the same. Of all my fruit trees APRICOT is one I hate to prune, it seems like the more I prune the bigger the tree gets. Also flowers way too early. seems like I'm not getting any apricot fruit like you this year, we surpose to get a couple of inches of snow tonight and the flowers are in full bloom.
