A linear equation in slope-intercept form will allow you to immediately identify the slope (the coefficient on the x) and the y-value of the y-intercept. There is a major conceptual error in that the y-intercept is a point (an ordered pair) and NOT a value.

For the slope-intercept form y=mx + b
The slope (m) IS a value (usually expressed as a fraction).
The y-intercept is a POINT (0,b), but is sometimes referred to as being just b. (the value)
