What is the difference between a two player "Trick Taking" game, and the card game War?

It's a mediocre game with potentially a great mechanism.
The first phase is a bit too random and the second phase is too solvable.
Also the artworks on some cards are unpleasant to look at (especially the goblins with pimples).
