In this video I'm going to share some ways you can fall back in love with your existing wardrobe and get the most out of the pieces you already own. Enjoy watching!

My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.

On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!

I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.

You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

Enjoy browsing!

Love,
Lucy

I'd add that when choosing your basics don't be afraid of choosing a bright color as your basic. You don't have to fall into the minimalist hole of just black, white and gray. I've chosen blue, a friend does purple. Just shop knowing what color your basics are.

Here’s what I like to do: changing buttons, adding embroidery, painting T-shirts with acrilic paint, dyeing, changing length (works with everything from skirts to coats), taking several items apart and making a new one (I made flared jeans from 2 or 3 old pairs). I’m not into appliqué and trims but you can use them as well. Also if you have a sewing machine you may use some decorative stitching if it suits your style. Knitted items can be easily unraveled to knit something new. If the quality of the yarn is high you can do this several times.

I love that lilac top with the brown pants. It's so soft and feminine looking. It looks really natural on you and I would never have expected it to look so good.

When an item doesn't smell fresh anymore for whatever reason, it helps to put it into a bucket with water and some vinegar, leave it in there over night and then wash it. This way I have saved some otherwise perfectly fine tops.

Proud outfit repeater! The more I wear sth, the more comfortable I am in it. Sometimes I even have to "break in" new items, but as soon as I have worn them for a bit, they just feel more like "me".

Great tips! I am a constant repeat wearer of my clothes. I have several of the same basic t-shirts I bought in high school, and I am 30 now. When you find a good fit, why change?

Great tips! Thank you!!! Ever since I started dressing vintage I don't buy as many new clothes because the pieces that I have are versatile and I'm learning to shop my own closet to mix and match new combinations. It feels good to minimize my footprint!

I love that you mentioned the sweater dress dilemma because as you said how you found you could make them work, was exactly how I'm wearing my outfit today! Just had this discovery over the past weekend when I almost got rid of them for the same reason lol

So good to hear you mention the issue of microplastic! Here in Denmark it's hot to use homeknitted kitchencloths for the same reason, but hardly any are concerned about all the microplastics from clothing...

Huge fan of recycling clothes from relatives specially if they are from other decades love to bring them back update them, or just enjoy using them and take care of them, one of my favorites is a swater from the 60's from my gradma has the best quality.

I never really considered how simple it was to just change the silhouette or the general flavour of a certain piece. I've got a lot of very feminine clothes from back when I was in high school that I've tried to cycle out since I've come out as trans, but I could probably get away with wearing a lot of it with just some slight alterations. I have a very edgy sense of style so I can give my skinny jeans a new life and wear a chunky jacket over some fitted tshirts. I'll take your advice and play the matching game as soon as my laundry is done :)

I love the whole spirit behind this video, we need to get more use of the clothes already in existence !

I love cutting dresses into tops especially the ones I grow out of or get older and feel they're too short for me

I love going thrift shopping, because I always feel less bad about buying something new when it has been thrifted instead of being brand new from whatever store (also, because it usually costs less if it is thrifted). I am absolutely an outfit repeater, I have a dozen or so dresses, but most of them I can wear shirts underneath that can completely change the vibe, and I have a few different jackets/sweaters and purses to change the look as well. It also helps that my wardrobe is pretty much just black, pink, and a soft blue, with some reds and whites mixed in for variety, which makes my clothing really easy to mix and match.

Dyeing clothing. Omg so simple why did I never think of that. Best idea you’ve come up with. I love black jeans but I stopped buying them because I could never preserve them, they’d always look like crap after a while. Great
